Academia Sinica, Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) · Application cycle 2027/2028
An English-taught PhD run by Academia Sinica with partner national universities in Taiwan, with a monthly stipend for admitted students. Applications for the Fall 2027 intake are open from 1 November 2026 to 1 February 2027.
Covers: a tax-free stipend of NT$40,000 a month in the first year (NT$34,000 plus NT$6,000). It continues for a second year if you perform well. After that, funding depends on your thesis advisor. Academia Sinica pays the extra tuition that universities charge international students for 5 years, so you pay the domestic rate. Does not cover: the domestic tuition, about NT$28,000 to 31,000 a semester in the first four semesters and NT$16,000 to 20,000 after that, depending on the partner university. The scholarship page says one more year. The FAQ on the application portal gives NT$40,000 and 2 to 3 more years, and an older FAQ on the TIGP site gives NT$34,000 a month and 2 to 3 more years.
