Applications open Partially funded?

About this scholarship

A grant for doctoral students, recent postgraduates and postdocs from universities outside Austria, for a research stay of 1 to 9 months at an Austrian university. It is open to all countries except Austria. It does not fund a degree in Austria.

Funding type

Covers: a monthly grant for the period of the research stay. Does not cover all your costs in Austria. The OeAD says you need own funds, for example for health insurance, accommodation, the visa trip and travel to Austria. The rate cannot be raised for family members. The monthly amount is not stated on the OeAD pages. People from some developing countries can also receive a travel subsidy, and the OeAD's travel subsidy list names "West Bank and Gaza Strip". The OeAD guideline sets a ceiling of EUR 2,000. The FAQ does not state the amount or confirm that it applies to this call.

University admission details

Not required?

You do not enrol at an Austrian university, but you need a supervisor there before you apply. The OeAD cannot help you find one. The online application is open from September to 1 December 2026. The deadline is 1 December 2026 at 23:59 Central European time, and documents sent later are not accepted. Applications that are incomplete or below the minimum word counts are rejected as invalid. Experts evaluate the applications after the deadline, and results are expected at the beginning of July 2027. The stay is 1 to 9 months in full months, starting in September 2027 or later. Non-EU nationals planning more than 6 months should think of a start in November or December, because the residence permit takes long. If you used generative AI in your application, you must declare it in the form.
