About this scholarship

A top-up of $10,000 a year for international students admitted to a full-time PhD at the University of Toronto. There is no separate application. The graduate unit nominates you after you apply for admission.

Funding type

Covers: a $10,000 top-up each year, paid in two instalments of $5,000. It is added to the programme's normal funding package (base amount plus tuition and fees), to a combined total of no less than $50,000 a year. It is renewable each year for the programme's normal funding period, 4 to 5 years and up to a maximum of 5 years, if you stay eligible, in good academic standing and keep an A- average. The graduate unit provides the normal funding package. It can come from awards, teaching or research assistantships and other sources. The cost of the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is on top of tuition and fees and should be included in the programme's funding. The page gives amounts in dollars and does not name the currency. The number of scholarships is not stated.

University admission details

Admission included in application?

There is no separate application and no deadline of its own. Graduate units make the nominations in the winter session, from admission applications submitted by the unit's own deadline. The page does not name a year. It describes nominations in the winter session for the following September. Each graduate unit sets its own admission deadline, shown on the unit's website. Results go to the graduate units in early March each year. Contact the graduate unit you want when you apply and say you want to be considered for the scholarship. The start of the award can be deferred by up to 12 months for medical or parental reasons, a study permit or visa delay, or relevant work experience, with the unit's approval and documents. The number of scholarships is not stated.
