Admission to a PhD programme at AUB. AUB admits students of any nationality A master's degree, after a recognised bachelor's degree, relevant to the field. The 2026-27 graduate catalogue sets a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 (A-) or its equivalent PhD programmes in AUB's graduate brochure include Arab and Middle Eastern History, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Business, Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Nursing Science and Theoretical Physics Most admitted PhD students receive a fellowship. The 2026-27 graduate catalogue says all PhD students normally receive a full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend

You must meet AUB's English requirement (RUSE) unless you are exempt, for example after a degree taught in North America, Britain, Australia or New Zealand. Minimum scores: TOEFL iBT 97, IELTS Academic 7.0, Duolingo 120, or 40 on AUB's own test, AUB-EN. A GRE Verbal score of 147 or a GMAT Verbal score of 25 also meets the requirement. With TOEFL 88 to 96, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 110 to 115 or AUB-EN 32 to 39 you are admitted with a required English course (English 300).

Apply for the PhD through AUB's online graduate application. You are considered for the fellowship automatically, with no other form. The deadline for Fall 2027-28 is 15 March 2027, Beirut time. The hour is not stated. The application window for this term has not opened yet. Decisions are sent from 14 May 2027, and classes begin in August 2027. You can apply to three PhD programmes in one application. AUB pages differ on the GRE. The PhD admissions page and the FAQ say it is needed only for some programmes: for Spring 2026-27, the GRE General Test for the PhD in Chemistry and the PhD in Mathematics, and the GRE Mathematics Test for Mathematics. The 2026-27 graduate catalogue lists GRE General scores for all PhD applicants. The Fall 2027 list is not out yet. The graduate catalogue also requires an interview, in person, by phone or online. There is an application fee. Its amount is not given on the FAQ page.

Application steps
Choose up to three PhD programmes and read the admission rules of each. When the Fall 2027-28 window opens, apply through AUB's online graduate application. Add three referees for each programme and upload your statement and transcripts. Submit before 15 March 2027, and send official transcripts and test scores to the Graduate Council.
