About this scholarship

Funded PhD projects in environmental science starting on 1 October 2027 at the University of East Anglia and other partner universities. A limited number are open to international applicants, and the university waives their fee difference.

Funding type

Covers: tuition fees, a maintenance stipend of GBP 21,805 a year at the 2026/27 rate, the research costs of the project, a research training and support grant, and GBP 2,500 for external training, travel and conferences. For an international award holder, the registering university waives the difference between home and international fees. Applicants from quantitative subjects with little environmental science background may get 3 extra months of stipend to take advanced courses. University admission details

Admission included in application?

Choose up to 3 projects from the list and apply to the university of registration through the link at the bottom of each advert. The deadline is 23:59 UK time on 16 December 2026. Supervisors shortlist and interview their applicants, and each nominates one candidate. The nominee fills in an ARIES form and sends the requested documents. Missing documents stop the application. ARIES panel interviews are online and last about 35 minutes, with a short talk of up to 5 minutes on a science topic you choose. The applications page still shows the interview week of the previous round, so the 2027 interview dates are not yet published. Offers follow soon after the panel meets. Studentships start on 1 October 2027.
